Japanese Mask is a high volatility slot, which means it is designed for those who enjoy the thrill of chasing significant prize potential. The Return to Player (RTP) is quite generous at 96.31%. The game starts on a standard 5x3 grid but can expand significantly during special rounds. You are ultimately looking to hit the top prize of 4,825 times the value of your play.

How to Play Japanese Mask

The base game begins with a 5x3 layout, but it features a very cool system called HexaPays. Instead of just matching symbols from left to right on straight lines, you can form winning lines horizontally, vertically, and even diagonally. This adds a lot of variety to every spin as you watch for matching masks and traditional Japanese items to align.

Symbols include several detailed masks that represent different spirits and characters from folklore. The Wild symbol helps complete these winning lines by acting as a substitute for others. To reach the biggest prizes, you’ll want to land the Scatter symbols, which are your ticket to the expanded reel set and the free spins mode. Gameplay and Bonuses

The real excitement in Japanese Mask starts during the Free Games period. When you trigger this feature, the layout actually enlarges into a massive 9x3 grid. This expansion gives you a much larger area to find winning combinations across the reels. You can trigger up to 38 free games in a single session, providing plenty of chances for the symbols to stack up.

Additionally, the game supports Habanero’s famous Jackpot Race. This is a progressive feature where a prize builds up and must be won by a certain time, adding a communal sense of urgency to the play. If you don't want to wait for the Scatters to land naturally, you can choose to 'play the feature' for a set value, which takes you directly into the Free Games with the expanded grid active.

Our Verdict

Japanese Mask is a beautifully crafted slot that offers a lot more than just good looks. I really enjoyed the HexaPays system because it makes the base game feel much more active since you're looking for wins in so many directions. The way the grid opens up during the free spins is also a highlight, as it completely changes the energy of the round.

While the high volatility means you might go a few spins without a hit, the potential for up to 38 free games makes the wait worth it. Players have commented that the Jackpot Race adds an extra layer of fun that you don't find in many other slots. If you appreciate a game that blends cultural beauty with innovative ways to win, I think this is a must-try. It feels polished and provides a unique twist on the classic five-reel style.
