Grim the Splitter offers a Return to Player (RTP) of 94.00% in its Dream Drop version, which accounts for the massive jackpot contributions. The game’s high volatility indicates that while prizes may not land on every single turn, they have the potential to be quite sizable during the bonus rounds. The action takes place across 25 fixed win-lines that can grow significantly during the feature.

How to Play Grim the Splitter

The game is played on a classic 5-reel, 3-row layout with 25 fixed win-lines. To secure a win, you need to land matching symbols on one of these lines, starting from the leftmost reel. The symbols are beautifully designed as tarot cards, featuring eerie creatures like ravens, cats, wolves, and bats, alongside lower-value card suits.

The Wild symbol is the most important card in the deck, as it triggers the signature "Splitter" feature. Whenever a Wild lands, it splits itself and all other symbols on that reel into two, effectively duplicating your symbols and increasing the number of ways to win on that line. You can split each reel up to three times, allowing for combinations of up to 20 symbols across a single win-line. Landing three or more Bonus symbols will launch the specialized free spins feature.

Gameplay and Bonuses

The true heart of the action in Grim the Splitter is the Splitter Feature. This mechanic is active in both the base game and the bonus rounds. In the base game, splits only last for the current spin. However, during the Free Spins feature, triggered by landing three Scatters, any splits you achieve are stored and remain active for the duration of the bonus. This allows the grid to grow increasingly larger, making it much easier to hit those massive 20-symbol combinations. For another experience with a quirkily spooky vibe, you might like Ghost Father.

This version also includes the legendary Dream Drop Jackpot bonus. This is a randomly triggered pick-and-click game where you try to reveal three matching jackpot symbols to win the Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major, or Mega prizes. For players who want to jump straight into the tarot-splitting action without waiting for the Scatters, a 'play the feature' option is available. This allows you to enter the Free Spins round immediately for a set play value.

Our Verdict

Grim the Splitter is a fantastic example of how to combine a dark, atmospheric theme with truly innovative gameplay. I really liked how the Splitter feature keeps every spin feeling unpredictable; seeing a reel double or triple in size is a great way to build natural tension. While some might find the 94.00% RTP a bit low, the trade-off for the massive Dream Drop jackpots and the x10,000 top prize potential makes it a compelling chase.

The high-quality artwork and ominous soundtrack create a great mood for fans of the horror genre. Community discussions often point out that the stored splits in the free spins are the real game-changer, as the board can become incredibly lucrative toward the end of the round. I think this slot is perfect for players who want something more complex than a standard machine and appreciate a spooky, high-stakes vibe. It is a well-crafted title that proves Relax Gaming is at the top of their game.
