Gemhalla stands out immediately with an exceptionally high Return to Player (RTP) of 97.17%, which is well above the industry standard. The volatility is rated as high, meaning it is designed for those who appreciate the thrill of waiting for explosive winning sequences. Instead of traditional win-lines, the game uses a 6x5 grid with a cluster wins system, activating whenever eight or more matching symbols appear anywhere on the board. The top prize is a solid 5,000 times your play value. For more adventurous action from this provider, you should check out Blackbeard's Bounty.

How to Play Gemhalla

The gameplay in Gemhalla is dynamic and fast-paced. Because it uses a cluster wins system on a 6x5 grid, you don't need to worry about symbols lining up on specific paths. You simply need to land eight or more identical symbols anywhere in view to secure a prize. The symbols feature a variety of colorful runes and Viking artifacts like axes, shields, and horns.

This title features a cascading reels system, which BGaming calls "Refilling." When you hit a win, those symbols disappear, and new ones tumble down from the top to fill the gaps. This continues as long as new wins keep forming from a single play. Watch for the wooden shields, as these act as multiplier symbols that can drop at any time to boost your total. To reach the biggest treasures, you will want to land four or more Scatter symbols represented by Thor’s hammer. If you enjoy the tumble mechanic, you should also try Gonzo's Quest 2: Return to El Dorado.

Gameplay and Bonuses

The true power of Gemhalla is revealed through its Multiplier Symbols. These can appear in both the base game and the bonus rounds, carrying values from 2x all the way up to 500x. If multiple shields land during a single sequence of cascades, their values are added together and applied to your total win for that play.

The Free Spins feature is triggered by landing four, five, or six Scatter symbols, which awards 15 free plays. During this round, the win multipliers become even more effective. Whenever a multiplier symbol lands and results in a win, its value is added to a "Global Multiplier" that stays active and keeps growing for the remainder of the feature. This means your prizes can reach massive levels toward the end of the round.

For those who want to jump straight to the thunderous action, a 'play the feature' option is available. This allows you to enter the Free Spins mode immediately for a set play value. Additionally, you can toggle a "Chance 2x" feature, which slightly increases your play value but doubles your odds of naturally triggering the bonus.

Our Verdict

Gemhalla is a fantastic example of a high-quality cluster wins slot. I was particularly impressed by the 97.17% RTP, which makes the high-volatility dry spells feel much more manageable than in other games. The visuals are bright and the animations of Thor reacting to the wins add a nice layer of personality to every session.

Players on community forums have commented that the global multiplier in the free spins is the real game-changer here, as it can turn even a small cluster of low-value runes into a significant prize. While the 5,000x top prize isn't the highest available in the Viking genre, the frequency of the multipliers makes the gameplay feel consistently rewarding. I think this slot is perfect for anyone who wants a polished, modern game that respects the player with a high return rate. It’s a standout title from BGaming that I think lives up to the hype of its mythological theme.
