Play Catfish Amazon Extreme by Golden Gopher Gaming

Explore the thick jungles of the river basin in Catfish Amazon Extreme, an energetic release from Golden Gopher Gaming. You might recognize the team under their former brand, S Gaming, but they have brought a fresh perspective to this popular fishing theme. The game takes you deep into the rainforest where rare species hide beneath the surface. It is a high-action title that focuses on the excitement of reeling in massive trophies from murky waters. GGG have featured catfish in one of their slots before, so if you are a particular fan of that fish you need to give Catfish Combo a spin of the reels too.

Catfish Amazon Extreme is a high-volatility slot, which means it is designed for those who enjoy the thrill of the chase. The RTP is solid at 96.00%, offering a fair balance for your play. The action takes place on a 5-reel, 3-row grid with 10 fixed win-lines. For players looking to land a trophy catch, the maximum potential is 5,000 times your play value.

How to Play Catfish Amazon Extreme

Getting started on the Amazon is simple. The game uses a 5x3 grid with 10 fixed win-lines that run from left to right. To secure a win, you need to match three or more symbols along one of these lines, starting from the first reel. The symbols are all related to the expedition, featuring rugged tackle boxes, binoculars, and various exotic catfish.

The Explorer acts as the Wild symbol and is the key to collecting prizes. In the base game, you will see fish symbols that carry random values. While these don't provide prizes through regular win-lines, they become the main target during the special features. To reach those features, you need to land three or more Scatter symbols, which are represented by the golden catfish logo. If you like this straightforward style of win-lines, Fishin' Bear is another great title to check out on the site.

Gameplay and Bonuses

The true energy of Catfish Amazon Extreme is found in the Free Spins round. Depending on how many Scatters you land, you start with 10, 15, or 20 spins. During this mode, the Explorer Wild symbol becomes active. Whenever he lands at the same time as any fish symbols, he reels them in, collecting all the values shown on the fish and adding them to your total.

There is a progression bar at the top of the screen that tracks every Explorer Wild you collect. Every fourth Wild retriggers the round, awarding 10 extra spins and increasing a win multiplier for all collected fish. This multiplier starts at 2x and can climb to 3x and eventually 10x. The game also includes a random Thunderstorm feature; if a Wild lands with no fish, a lightning strike can transform regular symbols into high-value catfish. For those who want to jump straight to the riverbank, a 'play the feature' option is available to enter the bonus round immediately for a set value.

Our Verdict

Catfish Amazon Extreme is a very polished and high-quality game that I think stands out because of its vibrant colors and snappy animations. I personally found the progression bar in the free spins to be the highlight, as it gives you a real sense of momentum while you try to reach those 10x multipliers. It clearly takes inspiration from another 'Amazon Xtreme' game featuring a Big Bass instead of a Big Catfish, but at least Golden Gopher Gaming has added enough of its own flair to make it feel fresh.

While the high volatility means you might have some quiet periods while navigating the river, the 5,000x top prize is a very motivating target. I think this slot is perfect for anyone who wants a modern, feature-rich fishing game that looks great on mobile or desktop. It is a solid and professional release from a studio that is clearly finding its stride under a new name. If you are looking for a reliable and entertaining adventure, this Amazon trip is a fantastic choice.
