Big Fin Bay is a high-volatility slot, making it an excellent choice for players who enjoy the thrill of chasing significant prize potential. The game features a dynamic grid that can expand significantly during special rounds. In the base game, you play across 6 reels with 5,040 ways to win, but this can grow to a massive 117,649 ways during the bonus. The Return to Player (RTP) is solid at 96.14%. How to Play Big Fin Bay

Getting started in these storied waters is easy, even with the expanding grid. To secure a win, you need to land matching symbols on three or more adjacent reels, starting from the far-left side. The symbols are full of character, ranging from low-value card icons to various colorful fish wall hangings. The top-tier symbol is the grizzled fisherman himself.

The golden marlin serves as the Wild and is the most powerful symbol on the board. When a Wild contributes to a winning line, it expands to cover its entire reel, potentially creating multiple new wins. Additionally, a "Mystery Wild" feature can trigger randomly during the base game, turning up to three entire reels wild for a single spin. If you like games that feature powerful expanding symbols, Panda Luck is another title you should consider.

Gameplay and Bonuses

The true excitement of Big Fin Bay is found in the Free Spins bonus game. This is triggered by landing three or more Anchor Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. Instead of a fixed number of spins, each reel with a scatter will award up to six free plays, which can lead to a starting total of 36 spins.

During the bonus round, the expanding Wilds become even more crucial. Every time a Wild lands, it not only expands to fill the reel but also triggers a respin and increases the number of symbols on that reel by one. This is how you unlock the full potential of 117,649 ways to win. If a reel reaches its maximum height of seven symbols, you are rewarded with three extra free spins. Unlike many modern games, this one does not have a "play the feature" option, so you’ll need to reel in those anchors the old-fashioned way. For those who enjoy a different kind of collection bonus, 3 Pots of Egypt offers a fun alternative.

Our Verdict

Big Fin Bay is a fantastic example of Thunderkick’s ability to take a familiar theme and make it feel brand new. I really liked how the expanding reels in the bonus round create a sense of building momentum; watching the grid grow taller with every marlin you catch is genuinely exciting. The visuals are crisp and the coastal village background is a nice change from the usual underwater scenery.

Players on community forums often comment that the Mystery Wilds in the base game are a great way to bridge the gap between bonus rounds, as they can lead to some surprisingly large prize clusters. While the high volatility means you might have some quiet periods, the 15,040x max win is a huge incentive to keep your line in the water. I think this slot is perfect for anyone who wants a fishing game with more depth and complexity than the standard titles. It is a polished, professional, and highly rewarding journey to the coast.
