How to Play Barney's Mine Hold for Gold

The game is played on a 3x3 grid and features 5 fixed winlines. To begin, you simply choose the value you wish to play per spin and press the start button. Winning combinations are formed by matching three identical symbols along one of the designated winlines, starting from the leftmost reel. The symbols you will see include classic mining icons like a pickaxe, a lantern, and a cart full of gold, along with the standard high-card ranks.

A shining golden ore acts as the Wild symbol, which can substitute for any standard symbol (except the NUGGET and RARE NUGGET symbols) to help complete a winning line. The game also features key NUGGET symbols to trigger the main Hold For Gold feature.

Adjusting your spin value is straightforward, allowing you to customize your session to suit your preferences. The user interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to keep track of your current balance and any rewards you accumulate.

Gameplay and Bonuses

The main draw of this slot is the Hold For Gold bonus, which is activated when you land 3 or more NUGGET symbols anywhere on the reels in the base game. When this happens, you are transported to a special screen where the triggering symbols—and their values—carry over and lock in place. You start with 3 re-spins, and the goal is to land as many additional symbols as possible on the vacant spaces. Each new symbol that lands locks into place and resets your spin count back to 3.

During the bonus, you can land several special symbols:

NUGGET Symbols: Carry a value between 1x and 5x of your total play amount.
RARE NUGGET Symbols: Carry a higher value between 5x and 9x of your total play amount.
MYSTERY BOX Symbol: This symbol only appears during the bonus round and will reveal one of three fantastic prizes:
Multiplier Feature: Awards a multiplier to boost your wins (ranging from 1x to 5x, or massive multipliers of 10x, 20x, or 50x).
Jackpot Feature: Instantly awards the MINI, MINOR, or MAJOR Jackpot. (Note: Landing a dedicated Jackpot symbol can also trigger these.)
Mine Madness Feature: Collects and instantly awards the total combined value of all NUGGET symbols currently on the board!

The suspense builds with every re-spin as you hope to see another gold nugget or Mystery Box lock into place. The bonus ends when all re-spins are used up or all 9 vacant positions on the game board are filled. If you manage to fill all positions on the screen, you are awarded the GRAND Jackpot!

If you want to jump straight into the action, there is also the option to play the feature directly, bypassing the need to wait for the NUGGET symbols to land organically.

Our Verdict

This title is a lively and enjoyable take on the classic mining theme. The 3x3 grid keeps things simple, but the Hold For Gold mechanic is packed with depth thanks to the Rare Nuggets, Mystery Boxes, and the lucrative Mine Madness collector feature. The visuals are crisp, and the upbeat music certainly helps set the mood. The fact that the bonus offers different fixed jackpots—and guarantees the Grand Jackpot for filling the screen—provides a clear, exciting goal. This is a very solid game overall with an impressive range of features. You can enjoy this title and many others at PlayFame Sweepstakes Casino, where the focus is always on fun and entertainment.
